	Remove/install
	Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.	Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.	AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

1	Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit	On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go, press the Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter (min. 2 m).
2	Unscrew bolts (arrows) on the left and right of the steering wheel	Hold the driver airbag unit (1). The bolts (arrows) remain on the steering wheel.

3	Lift up the driver airbag unit (1) from the steering wheel, disconnect electrical connector (2) on the driver airbag ignition squib 1 (R12/13) and electrical connector (3) on driver airbag ignition squib 2 (R12/14)		Fig 2
		Installation:  The electrical connectors (2, 3) must latch audibly when connecting.
4	Detach driver airbag unit (1) from the steering wheel	Installation:  The steering wheel must be replaced after the airbag unit (1)is triggered. Refer to: ↓ Remove/install steering wheel

5	Dispose of the driver airbag unit (1) which has been removed	Only when replacing the driver airbag unit (1).

6	Install in the reverse order
7	Check supplemental restraint system (SRS) with the aid of STAR DIAGNOSIS	Only when the driver airbag unit (1) has been replaced.
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
