General
Each portable CTEL (A34/6) receives a call signal via the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15) from the telephone antenna (A2/22). The number of the caller is shown on the display of the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) (only if caller ID transmitted) and this information is sent simultaneously to the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) control unit (N123/1). The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) control unit (N123/1) transfers the signals to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
All active audio sources of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) are muted and the call signal issued over the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
The audio gateway control unit (N93/1) sends the caller ID via the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B) for display in the instrument cluster (A1), at the same time the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1) sends the caller ID via the MOST.
Display of caller ID
The caller ID is displayed by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). It is shown on the display of each portable CTEL (A34/6) as well as on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) in the left multifunction display (A1p13) and the right multifunction display (A1p15) of the instrument cluster (A1).
Accepting a call
The user can choose one of the following to accept a call:
- Pressing the "Accept call" button on each portable CTEL (A34/6).
- Pressing the Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
- Pressing the "Accept telephone call" button in the control panel of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made using the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) solely via the hands-free system.
