Volume setting 

Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner. The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. In this case, a distance which can be set (in the "Settings" menu) between the volume of the audio signal and voice output is automatically adhered to. This means that voice output remains audible even in the case of loud audio output.

Tone setting 

Manual tone settings (treble, bass) can be made for each audio source on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

The tone setting selected for the radio simultaneously applies to traffic radio messages.

Adjustments which have been selected for the voice output during navigation, also influence the voice control system (VCS) code (813) Voice control system (VCS).

Moreover, the following 3 preset tone categories can be requested:

• Pop
• Classical
• Language

The following tone optimizations are possible with the sound system (models 230.467/474/475 with code (810) Sound system):

• Standard
• Ambient low
• ambient medium
• Ambient high
• Language
• Driver optimized

With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes.

The functionality for the volume and sound settings is being managed in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1); display and operation are handled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). If the vehicle is also equipped with sound system (models 230.467/474/475 with code (810) Sound system), the sound amplifier (A2/13) provides the final amplification of the audio signals before they are output over the speakers.

SDV, DRO 

Via speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation, Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO), the volume is adapted to the background noise in the vehicle interior. In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
