Remove/install brake pad on floating brake caliper - AR42.10-P-0160GZ

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A 
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
NOTES Brake fluid notes   AH42.50-P-0001-01A 
NOTES Notes on repairs to brake system   AH42.00-P-0003-01A 
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Lower brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir down to "MIN" mark IMPORTANT In order to prevent the expansion reservoir overflowing when pressing back the brake pistons.  
2 Remove wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
3 Disconnect electrical connector of the brake pad contact sensor    
4 Pry off spring steel sheet (1) and remove    
5 Remove protective caps (4) and unscrew bolts of guide pins IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install new bolts.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1002-10L 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1003-12L 
6 Remove floating brake caliper (2) with brake pads (3) NOTES Do not tension or kink brake hose. To relieve the load on the brake hose attach the floating brake caliper (2) to the vehicle unstressed, otherwise the brake hose will be damaged.  
IMPORTANT Notes on installing brake hoses INSPECTInstallation:  Check the correct routing of the brake hose. AH42.10-P-9406-01GZ 
7 Remove brake pads (3) from floating brake caliper (2) IMPORTANT Brake pads (3) are to be disposed of as special waste. The local authorities can provide information regarding whether disposal is also permitted as industrial waste similar to domestic waste.
IMPORTANT Only brake pads approved by Mercedes-Benz (3) may be fitted in sets.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install brake pads (3) without grease.
 
INSPECT Checking     
8 Check brake lining thickness and brake disks IMPORTANT Replace brake pads (3) and brake disks in complete sets if necessary.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Check brake lining thickness   AP42.10-P-4253A 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Inspect condition of brake disks   AP42.10-P-4258GZ 
9 Pull brake pad contact sensor out of the pad backing plate of the brake pad and check IMPORTANT Check for damage, replace contact sensor if necessary.  
IMPORTANT Notes on installing brake pad wear sensor contact sensors   AH42.10-P-0003-01GZ 
10 Check guide pins and boots IMPORTANT Check guide pins for sluggishness and damage. Check boots for damage and loose seat. Replace damaged parts with new parts.  
11 Check floating brake caliper (2) IMPORTANT In the event of a leaky floating brake caliper (2) or damaged dust boot: ↓  
    Install new front axle brake caliper. AR42.10-P-0070GZ 
    Replace rear axle brake caliper. AR42.10-P-0080GZ 
12 Press back brake piston using SPECIAL TOOL pusher tool (5) IMPORTANT If the brake piston is difficult to move:
↓
 
    Install new front axle brake caliper. AR42.10-P-0070GZ 
    Replace rear axle brake caliper. AR42.10-P-0080GZ

13 Check fall of the dust boot IMPORTANT If the dust boot projects beyond the brake piston, position the dust boot correctly.  
CLEANING Clean     
14 Clean the contact surfaces of brake pads (3) on floating brake caliper (2) and floating caliper carrier with a rag NOTESInstallation:  In the process do not damage the dust boot and boots. Do not use any sharp-edged or pointed tools, otherwise the floating brake caliper (2) or floating caliper carrier will be damaged.  
    LU cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
15 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. -
16 Operate the brake pedal several times until the brake pads (3) contact the brake disks IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
17 Check brake fluid level, correct if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Brake system - inspect fluid level   AP42.10-P-4210GZ
