Check and correct the adjustment of the headlamps - AP82.10-P-8260GZ: Notes

INSPECT Check    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by high voltage levels present at xenon headlamps.
Risk of explosion/fire hazard  due to highly flammable substances in the area of damaged xenon bulbs
Risk of injury  due to UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters when xenon bulbs burst
Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by toxic salts and mercury compounds being ingested or coming into contact with skin
Do not come into contact with parts that are under high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. heart pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

1 Park the vehicle on a horizontal, level surface IMPORTANT Vehicle must be in curb condition (curb weight, fuel tank full or corresponding additional weight).  
2 Correct tire inflation pressure    
3 One person to occupy the driver seat or load the seat with 75 kg Except vehicles with code 489 Airmatic (air suspension and level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS)  
4 Allow vehicle to regulate to vehicle level (-30 mm) using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with code 489 Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
5 Set the headlamps to the zero position using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with code 615 Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integral curve illumination  
6 Prepare headlamp aimer (01) IMPORTANT Position the headlamp aimer (01) so that it is approx. 50 cm in front of the headlamps, parallel to vehicle and level with the light source. Set the specified headlamp inclination on the scale of the headlamp aimer (01).
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions of the headlamp aimer (01).
 
7 Start the engine and switch on low beam    
8 Check headlamp range control for proper function Vehicles with manual headlamp range adjustment
IMPORTANT The light beams of the headlamps must adjust evenly.
 
9 Set switch for headlamp range adjustment to position 0 Vehicles with manual headlamp range adjustment  
10 Check low beam setting and correct if necessary IMPORTANT Except on vehicles with code 491 USA version or with code 494 California version or with code 494 USA version: The common reflector unit means that the low beams and high beams are adjusted simultaneously. AP82.10-P-8260-01GZ 
11 Check setting of high beam   AP82.10-P-8260-02GZ 
12 Prepare headlamp aimer (01) IMPORTANT Position the headlamp aimer (01) so that it is approx. 50 cm in front of the front fog lamps, parallel to vehicle and level with the light source. Set the specified front fog lamp inclination on the scale of the headlamp aimer (01).
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions of the headlamp aimer (01).
 
13 Switch on front fog lights, check adjustment and correct if necessary   AP82.10-P-8260-04GZ 
14 Switch off lamp and engine    
15 Detach STAR DIAGNOSIS
