Remove/install air spring - AR32.22-P-1500GZ

MODEL 164 

Vehicle with air suspension 

Wheel removed to simplify the presentation. Shown on model 164.1

REMOVING Removing    
DANGER Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or  , in extreme cases even sever  extremities. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Raise vehicle with lifting platform IMPORTANT Raise vehicle far enough until the wheels are clear of the ground. AR00.60-P-1000GZ
2 Empty air spring (3) with STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnostic system STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnostic system *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
3 Turn key in ignition switch to position "0". IMPORTANT On vehicles with Keyless Go, code 889: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off  
4 Raise vehicle with lifting platform   AR00.60-P-1000GZ
5 Remove cover (5) IMPORTANT Unscrew four plastic nuts (arrows B).  
6 Unscrew threaded connection of air suspension pressure line (6) from the air spring (3) IMPORTANT Seal the opening in the pressure line for air suspension and the air spring (3).

7 Carefully pull the air spring (3) downwards at its upper plastic frame (arrows C), until the air spring (3) detaches from the retaining clip (1) NOTES Do not twist air spring (3) otherwise it will be damaged
IMPORTANT The retaining clip (1) must be replaced during installation as it is destroyed during removal.
 
8 Carefully push the air spring (3) together (arrow D), in the process press the air spring centering (4) out of the spring control arm (7) from below NOTES Do not twist air spring (3) otherwise it will be damaged  
9 Remove air spring (3) downwards at an angle (arrow E)    
INSPECT Checking     
10 Check air spring (3) and cover (2) for damage IMPORTANT Replace if necessary.
IMPORTANT If necessary remove the remains of the retaining clip (1) from the upper bore of the air spring (3).
 
INSTALLING Install     
NOTES If the air spring (3) is not installed and filled according to the specifications, this can be predamaged and fail later    
11 Mount cover (2) on the air spring (3) IMPORTANT The fixing spigots (8) must engage in the bores (arrows F) of the air spring (3). The curved section (arrow G) of the cover (2) must be positioned above the pressure line connection of the air spring (3).  
12 Install new retaining clip (1) on the body IMPORTANT Remove the remains of the old retaining clip (3) from the body  
13 Insert air spring (3) NOTES Do not twist air spring (3) otherwise it will be damaged
IMPORTANT The air spring (3) must latch on the retaining clip (1) and be correctly positioned in the spring control arm (7)with the lug (arrow A) of the air spring centering system (4).
 
14 Screw the threaded connection of the air suspension pressure (6) on the air spring (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.22-P-1001-03B

15 Fit on cover (5) IMPORTANT Screw on four plastic nuts (arrows B).  
16 Lower vehicle with lifting platform IMPORTANT Only lower vehicle far enough that the wheels are still easily accessible. AR00.60-P-1000GZ
17 Start engine and run IMPORTANT Before starting ensure that the transmission is in neutral!
IMPORTANT Use exhaust extraction!
 
18 Fill the air spring (3) using the STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnostic system IMPORTANT Ensure leaktightness of air suspension system.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A

19 Switch off engine and lower vehicle using the lifting platform
