Remove/install torque strut at front axle - AR33.15-P-0160TX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050TX
2.1 Remove the front and central sections of the lower engine compartment paneling Vehicles with gasoline engine AR61.20-P-1105TX
2.2 Remove front and center portion of bottom section of soundproofing Vehicles with diesel engine AR94.30-P-5300TX
3 Press radius rod (18) out of steering knuckle (5).   AR33.15-P-0160-01TX

4 Undo nut (18c) of torque strut (18) from bolt (18a) NOTES When loosening the nut (18c) the bolt (18a) must not be twisted. Always counterhold self- locking bolt (18a). Otherwise the locating lugs for the caster adjustment in the rubber mount (18d) will be sheared off when the repair kit is fitted.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Screw on nut (18c) of bolt (18a) until it abuts, however do not tighten yet so that the rubber mount (18d) of the strut rod (18) can twist when the vehicle is rocked to settle the suspension. Do not tighten nut (18c) until in ready-to-drive condition.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1006-01K 
5 Pull bolt (18a) out of rubber mount (18d) and remove torque strut (18) from front axle carrier    
INSPECT Checking     
6 Check rubber boots on rubber mount (18d) for damage IMPORTANT The rubber boots should be retrofitted to protect the rubber mounts (18a).  
IMPORTANT If necessary, replace or retrofit rubber boots:
 
Remove/install rubber boots on rubber mount. AR33.15-P-0160-03T
7 Check rubber mount (18d) for signs of damage IMPORTANT If rubber mount (18d) is damaged:
 
Replace rubber mount on torque strut. AR33.15-P-0160-02T

8 Check rubber boot of ball joint of torque strut (18) for damage IMPORTANT The torque strut (18) must be replaced if the rubber boot is damaged.  
9 Install in the reverse order
