NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Extend or pull out adjustable steering column fully IMPORTANT Needed for separating the steering coupling (25).
2 Deactivate easy entry/exit function Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
NOTES Otherwise the driver seat and steering wheel move to a different position, e.g. when the driver door is opened/closed. The upper frame may be damaged when the holding device is installed.
IMPORTANT Disabling takes place via the buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu of the multifunction display, see owner's manual.
3 Turn steering wheel to central position (front wheels in straight ahead position) and secure with the retaining device NOTES On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

5 Detach steering coupling (25) from lower steering shaft (80a) by removing bolt (25a) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-01E
6 Pull the lower steering shaft (80a) upward to extract it from the steering coupling (25.) NOTES Do not use force (hammer, strong lever action) since the lower steering shaft is sensitive to lateral impacts.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Watch the tab on the steering coupling and the groove in the lower steering shaft while sliding the lower steering shaft all the way into the steering coupling (arrows).
7 Remove bolt (25b) from steering coupling (25). INSTALLATION NOTES Replace self-locking nut.
NOTES *BA46.10-P-1002-01E
8 Carefully pull steering coupling (25) out of control valve of rack-and-pinion steering. NOTES Do not use force (hammer blows, severe leverage) as a predetermined fracture point is located on the control valve. If necessary, expand clamping slot slightly with screwdriver.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Turn rack-and-pinion steering to center position and install steering coupling, brake fluid reservoir AR46.20-P-0600-01TX
9 Pull locking plate (25f) off the steering coupling (25), in doing so lift up the lug on the locking plate using a suitable tool. IMPORTANT The locking plate (25f) is not available as a replacement part.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert a new self-locking nut in the existing locking plate (25f). Push on locking plate (25f) until the lug on the locking plate (25f) engages in the steering coupling (25).
