Back-in parking, function - GF54.65-P-2005SX

MODEL 221.0 /1, 216.3 with CODE (218) Backup camera up to Model Year 8

Back-In Parking mode

In the Back-In Parking mode the driver is visually assisted in all maneuvering situations, in which backing up or back-in parking is required.

Function requirements

System start

If the driver has brought the vehicle into the starting position, he starts the backup camera system by engaging reverse gear. A current illustration of the rear area is shown to the driver in the COMAND display (A40/8), over which help lines are superimposed for assistance and guidance.

Virtual extension of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle (green help lines)

The green help lines represent a virtual extension of the vehicle. The distance between the green help lines is slightly more than the vehicle width.

Virtual steering angle (yellow help lines)

The yellow help lines are shown as soon as the driver turns the steering wheel. They indicate to the driver the path which the vehicle would follow with the currently applied steering angle. This curve is automatically adapted to the situation as the steering angle changes. The distance between the yellow help lines is slightly more than the vehicle width.

Parking procedure

In order to park the driver must now adapt the steering angle until an outer line of the yellow help lines in the COMAND display virtually touches the parking space marking.

This parking space marking can, e.g. be another vehicle or a line on the asphalt. The driver must then continue backing up and adapting the steering angle until the displayed parking space limits run parallel to the current direction of travel.

Next the driver must turn the steering wheel back into the straight-ahead position in order to drive in a straight line up to the final parking position in the parking lot.

Distance lines

Distance lines

In the straight-ahead position of the steering (steering angle = 0°) the yellow help lines are congruent with the green help lines.

As soon as the lines are congruent, the green help lines are no longer displayed.

By means of distance lines the driver is informed about the distances from the virtual bumper to the obstacles.

IMPORTANT In the Back-In Parking mode acoustic notifications and warning messages are not issued.
