ENGINE 156, 272, 273, 275, 642, 629 in MODEL 221 with CODE (233) Distronic Plus up to Model Year 8
Location of the radar sensors in the front bumper
The radar sensors are fitted from the rear in the front bumper.
Location of the radar sensors in the rear bumper
The radar sensors are fitted from the rear in the rear bumper.
Task
Short range sensors detect objects (e. g. vehicles) within a short range up to 30 m and at an angle up to 140°
They cover the speed range of the vehicle from standstill up to the maximum vehicle speed and are therefore an ideal complement to long range radar.
Function
The front and rear short range sensors are actuated and evaluated by the radar sensors control unit (SGR) (N62/1) via two separate sensor CANs.
The short range sensors are broadband, facilitating highly precise position data and simplifying the separation of objects within close range of one another.
Different assignment with ground at PIN 5 and 6 allows coding (differentiation) of individual short range sensors.
The short range sensors are ultra wideband radar sensors with the following properties:
- Radar sensor detection range 0.2 m to 30 m at a resolution of 0.04 m
- Detection zone 80° with angle measurement and 140° with detection only
- Radar sensor with 24.125 GHz carrier frequency
- Operation: short pulse method with 5 GHz bandwidth
