Location 

The radio is located in the center console.

Task 

The radio is the central operating unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle. It makes the following system components available:

IMPORTANT The radio generates a structured and standard interface, which is displayed on the audio/COMAND display.

The radio also supports the following control units:

The radio acts as a gateway. The radio routes the signals from the interior CAN to the components in the telematics CAN and the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and forms the communications interface.

Function 

The buttons for the control panel on the radio are read in and relayed to the central computer. Button actuations are processed in the central computer and a message sent via the MOST, telematics CAN or the interior CAN to the other system components. If the On/Off button on the radio is pressed, the radio switches on. The volume is adjusted on the On/Off button for each set audio source, by turning it. Pressing the function keys induces a switch over to the system component required by the user.

CD drive 

The integrated CD drive enables audio CDs to be played (including in MP3 format).
