8.9.04 Bolt of fixed brake caliper to steering knuckle changed from 55 Nm to 115
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. -
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. -

1 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000V
2 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT In order to prevent the expansion reservoir from overflowing, when the brake caliper pistons are pushed back.  
3 Hoist vehicle with lifting platform until wheels are free   AR00.60-P-1000V
4 Remove the front wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050V
5 Remove brake pads from the front axle   AR42.10-P-1600VA 
6 Unscrew bolt (1) and remove right front brake pad contact sensor (2) from brake caliper (31) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1004-10P 
7 Remove brake hose (51) IMPORTANT Seal line connections immediately with SPECIAL TOOL plugs. The brake fluid expansion reservoir must not run empty. AR42.10-P-0013V

8 Unscrew bolts (31s) and remove brake caliper (31) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1001-10P 
9 Install in the reverse order    
10 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010V 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. -
11 Operate the brake pedal several times until brake pads make contact with the brake disks (61) IMPORTANT The brake pads have made contact with the brake disks (61) when a firm resistance can be felt at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Checking     
12 Check brake system for leaks   -
13 Inspect fluid level in expansion reservoir, adjust to correct level if necessary FLUID SPECIFICATION *BF42.10-P-1001-01A 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Brake system - inspect fluid level   AP42.10-P-4210V 
DANGER Risk of death  caused by body parts being pulled in by rotating vehicle wheels and roller dynamometer rollers Do not insert your hand into rotating parts.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Safeguard areas with rotating vehicle parts and dynamometer rollers against unauthorized access.
Safeguard roller dynamometer from unauthorized access.

14 Carry out brake test on the test stand
