Remove/install front axle brake caliper - AR42.10-P-0070V

MODEL 171.442 with ENGINE 271.944 

MODEL 171.454 with ENGINE 272.942

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. -
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. -

1 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Detach/attach wheel and rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050V
2 Unscrew brake line (6) from brake hose (51) and seal off openings IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Seal off line connections using plugs.
IMPORTANT The brake fluid expansion reservoir must not be allowed to run completely empty.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake line to brake hose *BA42.10-P-1001-04A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake hose to fixed or floating caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-04A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Set of stop plugs Figure
    SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Figure

3 Unclip brake hose (51) on bracket on shock absorber    
4 Unscrew brake hose (51) on floating brake caliper (31) and seal with SPECIAL TOOL stop plug TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1002-04A

5.1 Disconnect connector (10) from right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2) When removing the right front brake linings  
NOTES Notes on installing brake pad wear sensor contact sensors   AH42.10-P-0003-01A 
6.1 Unscrew bolt (4) of right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2) from brake caliper (31) When removing the right front brake linings
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install new self-locking bolt (4)
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1004-10P 
7 Unscrew bolts (5) of brake caliper (31) from brake caliper support (30) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace self-locking bolts (5).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1003-10P 
8 Remove brake linings    
9 Install in the reverse order    
10 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010V 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
11 Press the brake pedal several times until the brake pads contact the brake disks IMPORTANT The brake pads contact the brake disks when a firm resistance is noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

12 Check brake system for leaks   AR42.10-P-0100-01V
