Function requirements  Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"; Audio system is authorized and operating free of faults; The SDAR antenna (A2/82) is operating free of faults.

Depending on the equipment version, one of the following audio devices is installed (hereinafter called "Audio unit"):  Radio (A2), with code (510) Audio 20 including CD changer - COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer.

General  The SDAR control unit (N87/5) enables "Sirius satellite radio" provider channels to be received. The satellite digital audio radio system (satellite radio) (SDAR) is controlled via the "audio equipment". The information and displays required for operation are output on the "audio equipment" display.

Operating instructions  The system can be operated using the following components: - Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) - Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) - Control buttons on "Audio unit".

SDAR function sequence  To achieve reception diversity, the SDAR signal is transmitted 3 times (by 2 satellites and one terrestrial transmitter). The SDAR antenna receives all 3 channels (Sat 1, Sat 2, terrestrial transmitter). The SDAR antenna routes the signals over a coaxial cable to the SDAR control unit. The SDAR control unit receives and decodes the signals. In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the SDAR control unit transmits the decoded digital radio signals to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). From there, the decoded digital radio signals are output over the following speakers: - Left door speaker group (H4/1) - Right door speaker group (H4/2) - Left rear speaker (H4/7) - Right rear speaker (H4/8) - Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27) - Left door tweeter (H4/33) - Right door tweeter (H4/34) - Left rear surround speaker (H4/54) - Right rear surround speaker (H4/57).

On vehicles except CODE (810) Sound system, the SDAR control unit transmits the decoded digital radio signals for audio output to the "audio equipment" via the MOST. From there, the decoded digital radio signals for audio output are output via direct lines over the following speakers:  Left door speaker group - Right door speaker group - Left rear speaker - Right rear speaker - Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) - Left door tweeter - Right door tweeter.
