Install/remove condenser - AR83.30-P-6540V

MODEL 171.4 with ENGINE 113.989, 271.944 with CODE (580) Automatic air conditioning with CODE (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install    
DANGER Risk of explosion  from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged. -
NOTES Conduct if air conditioning system is damaged or leaking All models AH83.30-N-0004-01A 
NOTES Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work All models fitted with air conditioning AH83.30-N-0005-01A 
IMPORTANT Notes on handling refrigerant R134a Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a AH83.30-N-0003-01A 
DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. -
1 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-P-1000V
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/ range of moving parts. When moving components, ensure that no body parts or limbs are within the operating rear-end door or sliding roof. -
2 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position   AR88.40-P-1000V
3 Discharge air conditioning system IMPORTANTInstallation:  Evacuate, refill air conditioning system and check for proper operation and tightness. AR83.30-P-1760V 
4 Disconnect air conditioning evacuation, recycling and charging unit for refrigerant R134a COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Air conditioning evacuation, recycling and charging unit for R134a refrigerant *WE58.40-Z-1002-22A 
5 Unclip intake air line (3) on air cleaner housing (2) and on intake air duct (4) IMPORTANT Unclip intake air line (3) at both sides with engine 113.989 in model 171.473.  
6 Push catch at upper fixture (5) of radiator (10) inwards and remove upper fixture (5) upwards IMPORTANTInstallation:  Grease both upper fixtures at body contact surfaces.  
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
7.1 Remove drier cartridge Engine 113.989 in model 171.473 AR83.30-P-6521VT 
    NOTES The openings of the refrigerant lines (8) and of the condenser (1) must be sealed, since any penetrating dirt and moisture can otherwise damage components connected to the refrigerant circuit.

8 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling at front   AR61.20-P-1105V
9 Disconnect electrical connector from refrigerant pressure sensor (B12).    
10 Unscrew nut (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA83.30-P-1005-01D 
11 Remove refrigerant lines (8) from condenser (1) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Renew sealing rings of refrigerant lines (8) and wet with compressor oil.  
12 Use suitable sealing caps or plugs to seal openings of refrigerant lines (8) and condenser (1) NOTES The openings of the refrigerant lines (8) and of the condenser (1) must be sealed, since any penetrating dirt and moisture can otherwise damage components connected to the refrigerant circuit.  
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Set of sealing plugs for air conditioning system *WH58.30-Z-1002-27A 
13.1 Remove screw (13) Engine 113.989 in model 171.473  
14.1 Release charge air cooler (9) using suitable screwdriver (arrows A), swivel forwards and up and then put down Engine 271.944
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Slide charge air cooler (9) into fixture (12) on radiator (10) (arrow B) and lock (arrow A). Check installation position.
 
15 Lift radiator (10) out of lower support (11) and tilt towards engine    
16 Remove spreader clips (6) from intake air duct (4) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace damaged expanding clips (6).  
17 Remove suction air duct (4) by moving first to the left and then to the right    
18 Release radiator (10) on condenser (1)    
19 Fit safety plate to radiator (10) and remove condenser (1) upwards IMPORTANT Make sure that the stud for fastening the refrigerant lines (8) on the condenser (1) does not damage the slats on the radiator (10).  
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS Guard plate for radiator / condenser   -
20 Install in the reverse order
