| Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. | - |
| Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system | AH83.30-N-0004-01A | |
| All the filters installed in the air conditioning system must be replaced after cleaning | Possible filters are: dust filter, combination filter and activated charcoal filter. | |
| Close footwell flaps | ||
| Switch off ignition, blower and air conditioning | ||
| Remove engine compartment paneling in vicinity of condensation water drains | Later on, disinfecting cleaner will be drained over condensation water drains. | |
| Place collecting pan beneath condensation water drains | ||
| Remove evaporator temperature sensor | AR83.30-P-8085V | |
| Remove washer from the hole in air conditioning housing. | ||
| Remove combination filter | AR83.00-P-1000V | |
| Cleaning the evaporator | ||
| Insert probe of disinfecting cleaning equipment into evaporator housing | ||
| Place thumb on guide pulley | This determines the spray direction. The guide pulley must point to the vehicle interior when spraying through the evaporator temperature sensor opening. The guide pulley must point to the firewall when spraying through the filter openings. | |
| Operate gun and move probe back and forth | Spray approx. 1 liter of disinfectant, 0.5 liter per side for models 164 and model 251. Allow cleaning fluid to work in for at least 30 min. | |
| Check whether cleaning fluid is coming out of the condensation drains | If cleaning fluid is merely dripping out of the drains, check condensation water drains for clogging and clean. | |
| Start engine, switch on air conditioning system, open all air flaps and allow blower to run at highest setting for at least 10 min. | Leave the doors on the vehicle open. The evaporator is flushed out. Only when these instructions are complied with exactly is the evaporator cleaned completely and the odor eliminated. | |
| Switch off ignition | ||
| Cleaning the interior compartment | ||
| Install evaporator temperature sensor | AR83.30-P-8085V | |
| Close air recirculation flap by means of actuating "Close air recirculation flap for cleaning" in DAS. | Close the air recirculation flap by means of actuation "Close air recirculation flap for cleaning" in DAS. If this menu item is not available in DAS for the required models, start the special coding function (code number) in the DAS system and set the manual recirculated air function to unlimited". | |
| Prepare atomizer for cleaning air conditioning system on inside | Perform cleaning using the atomizer (ultrasonic). | |
| Start engine, allow vehicle to warm up with the air conditioning system switched off | Observe operating concept A/C - ACOFF, heat up interior compartment for at least 30 min (while stationary). | |
| Set blower to stage 2 to 3 | ||
| Set air conditioning system to maximum heating capacity | This process serves to dry the evaporator. The success of the cleaning method is only guaranteed when the evaporator is dry. | |
| Set nozzle setting to footwell | ||
| Place the atomizer (ultrasonic) in the passenger compartment on the passenger side, in the process attach the hose in the luggage net so that smoke which escapes is extracted via the footwell vents | The evaporator must be dried out before the atomizer is used (ultrasonic). The air conditioning must always be switched off during the following steps (observe operating concept A/C ACOFF). Route power supply for atomizer through front passenger window. | |
| Switch off the air conditioning | ||
| With the engine running and the air conditioning system switched off, press air recirculation button, set to lowest blower stage and set temperature to "Min". | Observe operating concept A/C - ACOFF. | |
| Switch on atomizer (ultrasonic) | Under some circumstances the cleaning process may be interrupted briefly but then continues automatically. | |
| Switch off the engine and ignition, switch off the atomizer (ultrasonic) and leave the vehicle closed for approx. 1 hour | When the cleaning process is complete. | |
| Open the doors, trunk lid or liftgate and ventilate the vehicle | ||
| Set the air recirculation flap in the special coding back to "limited" | ||
| Start engine, switch on air conditioning, temperature on "LO", highest blower stage, allow to run for approx. 10 min. | The evaporator is flushed out. Only when these instructions are complied with exactly is the climate control system cleaned completely and the odor is eliminated. | |
| Switch off ignition | ||
| Install | ||
| Install combination filter of air conditioning system Replace combination filter | AP83.00-P-8384V | |
| Remove collecting pan | ||
| Install engine compartment paneling |
