Remove/install Vario roof front section - AR77.50-P-3100V

MODIFICATION NOTES

13.4.04 Repair method modified All steps
REMOVING Remove    
1 Remove paneling from front Vario roof   AR68.30-P-4350V
2 Remove both counter bearings (2) from Vario roof front section (1)    
3 Mark installation position of electric and hydraulic lines fastened to Vario roof front section (1)    
NOTES Notes on performing assembly work on Vario roof   AH77.30-P-0002-01R 
4 Expose all electric and hydraulic lines fastened to Vario roof front section (1)    
5 Remove control cables (3) from Vario roof front section (1)    
6 Remove lock from front Vario roof IMPORTANT Lay lock with hydraulic cylinder installed, Vario roof "locked" limit switch (right rotary tumbler) and control cables (3) clipped on down in passenger compartment AR77.33-P-3400V 
7 Mark installation position of mounts (4) and installation location of spacers (5) on Vario roof front section (1)    
8 Remove bolts (6)    
9 Remove bolts (7) IMPORTANT Helper required for holding Vario roof front section (1).  
10 Remove Vario roof front section (1) and lay down on suitable subsurface IMPORTANT Helper required  
INSTALLING Install     
11 Lay Vario roof front section (1) together with spacers (5) down onto mounts (4) with helper and fasten with bolts (6, 7) IMPORTANT Screw in bolts (6, 7) only until the Vario roof front section (1) is fastened free of play on mounts (4)It should be possible to move the Vario roof front section (1) in the mounts (4).
Observe installation markings of spacers (5)When replacing the Vario roof front section (1) install spacers (5) at original points.
 
12 Install lock in front Vario roof   AR77.33-P-3400V 
13 Install control cables (3) on Vario roof front section (1) IMPORTANT Replace damaged fastener.  
14 Install electric and hydraulic lines on Vario roof front section (1) IMPORTANT Pay attention to installation markings.
Replace damaged fastener
 
NOTES Notes on performing assembly work on Vario roof   AH77.30-P-0002-01R 
15 Install both counter bearings (2) on Vario roof front section (1)    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being trapped  or crushed  when working on partially open Vario roof (stop mode) or in its closing area as a result of the Vario roof suddenly collapsing Secure Vario roof with a suitable special tool. AS77.50-Z-0001-01A
16 Remove support for securing intermediate position of Vario roof and lay Vario roof front section (1) down toward front IMPORTANT The Vario roof lowers by itself after removing the support For this reason hold Vario roof front section (1) to prevent uncontrolled lowering

17 Move both seats toward front, fold backrests toward front IMPORTANT See Operating Instructions  
18 Open stowage compartment (16), break cover (8) out of rear wall (9) of stowage compartment (16) with suitable screwdriver    
19 Turn emergency opening valve (10) approx. 2 turns    
20 Close front lock with emergency lock (11)    
21 Close emergency opening valve (10) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA77.37-P-1001-01A 
22 Close opening for emergency opening valve (10) in rear wall (9) with blind plug and close stowage compartment (16) IMPORTANT The blind plug is available as replacement part.  
23 Check transition between C-pillar upper section (12) and Vario roof front section (1), if necessary adjust by removing or inserting spacers (5) IMPORTANT Position gauge (13) on Vario roof as shown

24 Center Vario roof front section (1) on transition to C-pillar upper section (12) and check gap (A) between Vario roof front section (1) and left and right C-pillar upper section (12).   *BE77.30-P-1005-01A

25.1 Pull gate valve (14) toward front until eccentric bolt (15) is unlocked. Adjust gap (A) between Vario roof front section 81) and C-pillar upper sections (12). Simultaneously ensure that the Vario roof front section (1) is centered Only if gap (A) must be adjusted *BE77.30-P-1005-01A 
    IMPORTANT Insert one feeler gauge each with required dimension between Vario roof front section (1) and C-pillar upper sections (12), press C-pillar upper sections (12) toward front and or toward rear until gap (A) is reached. Adjustment of gaps (A) when eccentric bolts (15) is unlocked
Leave feeler gauges inserted until bolts (6, 7) are tightened

26 Screw tight bolts (6, 7). SPECIAL TOOL *BA77.33-P-1012-01A 
27 Remove feeler gauges between Vario roof front section (1) and both C-pillar upper sections (12) SPECIAL TOOL Figure
28 Check adjustments made, correct if necessary    
29 Install paneling at front of Vario roof   AR68.30-P-4350V
