Adjust gap between Vario roof and cross member above windshield - AR77.50-P-3035V

MODIFICATION NOTES

13.4.04 Check and adjustment method changed All steps
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or  , in extreme cases even sever  extremities. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. -
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being trapped  or crushed  when working on partially open Vario roof (stop mode) or in its closing area as a result of the Vario roof suddenly collapsing Secure Vario roof with a suitable special tool. -
1 Check transition from roof frame (1) to Vario roof front section (2) with gauge (3) IMPORTANT Observe marking on gauge (3):
"D" points toward Vario roof front section (2),
"DR" points to roof frame (1).
Check with "Y0" at center of roof, with "Y400"
400 mm away from center of roof on left and right.
Vario roof should be closed and locked completely.

2 Check gap (S) between roof frame (1) and Vario roof front section (2) with feeler gauge SPECIAL TOOL *BE60.00-P-1005-01L

REMOVING Removing     
3 Remove paneling from left and right A-pillar IMPORTANT Remove paneling from A-pillar until mounts (4) are accessible AR68.30-P-4050V
INSPECT Checking     
4 Switch on ignition, completely close Vario roof with soft top actuation switch and check position of lock hook (5) in left and right mount (4) NOTES The lock hooks (5) should not make contact with the mounts (4) or the washer (6). Otherwise, knocking noises could occur while driving.  
  Adjust     
5 Open Vario roof approx. 10 cm with Vario roof actuation switch and position suitable shim, e.g. block of wood, between Vario roof front section (2) and roof frame (1). Then switch off ignition IMPORTANT The Vario roof closes automatically approx. 15 s after the ignition is switched off (stop mode). Thereby, the shim will be pinched.
The shim should keep the Vario roof open so that the mounts (4) can be removed
 
6 Loosen nut (7) on left and right mount (4)    
7 Adjust position of lock hook (5) in left and right mount (4) by removing or inserting spacers (8) on the inner mounting point of mount (9) and the outer mounting point of mount (10) for mount (4). IMPORTANT This adjusts the transition between the roof frame (1) and the Vario roof front section (2).Check transition from roof frame (1) to Vario roof front section (2) with gauge (3).

8 Tighten nuts (7) so that mounts (4) can still be moved    
9 Slightly lift Vario roof front section (2) and remove shim inserted between Vario roof front section (2) and roof frame (1). IMPORTANT After the shim is removed the Vario roof closes by itself. Ensure that both locks (13) run correctly into the mounts (4)  
10 Insert one feeler gauge each with gap (S) on left and right between roof frame (1) and Vario roof front section (2). Switch on ignition, completely lock Vario roof with Vario roof actuation switch Then switch off ignition IMPORTANT This allows adjustment of the gap (S).
The joint gap should not form a wedge. The gap should not deviate from parallel by more than 1.0 mm over the entire length.
Helper required.

11 Tighten nuts (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA77.33-P-1011-01A 
12 Check adjustment of left and right seal (12) on Vario roof front section (2), correct if necessary. IMPORTANT See: ↓  
    Remove/install seal at front of Vario roof on side AR77.50-P-4200V 
13 Check Vario roof contour, adjust if necessary   AR77.50-P-3040V 
14 Check adjustment made, repeat if necessary    
15 Move Vario roof to intermediate position and secure IMPORTANT C-pillar position approx. 90°. AR77.50-P-3000-01V

16 Clean locking lugs of left and right lock (13) and guide (arrow D) on left and right mount (4) with rag and then lubricate IMPORTANT Lubricate locking lugs over entire length.  
    Lubricant *BR00.45-Z-1004-06A 
INSTALLING Install     
17.1 Install paneling at front of Vario-roof If paneling is removed for adjustment AR68.30-P-4350V
18 Install paneling on left and right A-pillar   AR68.30-P-4050V
TEST AND ADJUSTMENT VALUES FOR GAP DIMENSIONS
