Loosen front bumper and fasten - AR88.20-P-2000-01R

IMPORTANT The following work procedure is Illustrated on vehicles up to 28.2.06 and serves as an example for removal of the left front headlamp.

  1. Unscrew bolts (3) at top of radiator grille (2).

    IMPORTANT The radiator grille (2) remains on the front bumper (1).

  2. Unscrew bolts (4) at top on front bumper (1).

  3. Unscrew bolt (7) from clamping bracket (8).
  4. Pivot clamping bracket (8) toward center of vehicle (arrow), pull toward rear and remove.
  1. 5.1 Disconnect front bumper PTS connector (X26/27).

    IMPORTANT Only on vehicles with code (220) Parktronic system (PTS).

  2. 6.1 Release catch lug on air inlet grille (5) through access opening (1) with suitable screwdriver. Pull air inlet grille (5) out of front bumper (1) until outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14) is accessible.

    NOTES Pull air inlet grille (5) out of front bumper (1) carefully to avoid damaging air inlet grille (5).

    IMPORTANT Only for vehicles up to 28.2.06

  3. 7 Remove outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14).

    NOTES Do not pull electric wiring harness on outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14) to prevent damaging the outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14).

    IMPORTANT On vehicles as of 1.3.06, the outside temperature display temperature sensor (B14) is installed in the cover frame of left front fog lamp (E5/1).

  4. 8 Unscrew nut (6) at bottom on front bumper (1).

    IMPORTANT On vehicles as of 1.3.06 the nut (6) is accessible through the corresponding access opening in the cover frame of left front fog lamp (E5/1) or right front fog lamp (E5/2).

  5. 9 Pull out front bumper (1) toward front.

    IMPORTANTMounting:  Install front bumper (1) in bracket (9).Ensure that front bumper (1) is seated correctly in front engine compartment paneling.

  6. 10.1 Mask front bumper (1) and front fender (12) in transition area to left front headlamp unit (E1) or right front headlamp unit (E2) with suitable adhesive tape.

    IMPORTANT To loosen or remove left front headlamp unit (E1) or right front headlamp unit (E2).

    Prevents paint damage on front bumper (1) and front fender (12) when removing left front headlamp unit (E1) or right front headlamp unit (E2).

  7. 11 Fasten in opposite order.
