1 Close Vario roof
2 Open trunk lid (1)
3 Remove wiring harness (15) from right hinge bracket (2) until nuts (8) are accessible and sufficient clearance is present for installing strut (5). SPECIAL TOOL Figure
4.1 Remove wiring harness (22) from left hinge bracket (3) until nuts (8) are accessible and sufficient clearance is present for installing strut (5). On vehicles with code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC)
    SPECIAL TOOL Figure
5 Disconnect electrical connector (4)
6 Screw strut (5) to hinge base plate on left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2) through present threaded holes. IMPORTANT The strut prevents (5) the position of the left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2) being changed in relation to one another.
    SPECIAL TOOL Figure
7 Loosen left and right stop buffer (6) and screw in completely
8 Loosen nuts (8, 9) on hinge base plates of left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2)
9 Apply chalk to roller (10) on left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2).
10 Close trunk lid (1) and open again NOTES Carefully close trunk lid (1), if adjusted incorrectly C-pillar top sections, fender and trunk (1) can be damaged.
11 Check whether rollers (10) make uniform contact with left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2), if necessary adjust strut (5). IMPORTANT The chalk imprint should make uniform contact in the cross-hatch pattern (arrow C) on left hinge bracket (3) and right hinge bracket (2).

18 Install wiring harness (15) on right hinge bracket (2)
19.1 Install wiring harness (22) on left hinge bracket (2) On vehicles with code (881) Remote trunk closing (RTC)
20 Connect electrical connector (4)
21 Completely screw in stop buffer (16)
22 Apply knead mass or similar to contact surface on mounts (11), check position of height limiter (7) in relation to mounts (11). For this purpose, completely close trunk lid (1) and open again IMPORTANT Check position of height limiter (7) in relation to mounts (11) with aid of knead impression.
The notches (21) on the contact surfaces of the height limiter (7) and the notches (20) on the mounts (11) should coincide.
The notches (20, 21) should not be further apart than max. 1 mm.

23 Loosen bolts (18) until height limiter (7) can be moved
24 Close trunk lid (1) and check gap "V", adjust if necessary. IMPORTANT Adjust by moving locking eye (13).

25 Adjust position of height limiter (7) in relation to mounts (11) by moving in direction of arrow (arrow E). For this purpose, unscrew bolts (18), remove height limiter (7) from carrier plate (17) and position correspondingly on grid on carrier (17). Then tighten bolts (18) until it is still just possible to move the height limiter (7) IMPORTANT The notches (21) on the contact surfaces of the height limiter (7) and the notches (20) on the mounts (11) should coincide.
The notches (20, 21) should not be further apart than max. 1 mm.

26 Adjust dimension "M" by moving height limiter (7) in direction of arrow (arrow G) IMPORTANT The gap between the taillamps and trunk lid (1) should not have a wedge shape.

27 Open trunk lid (1) with Vario roof switch IMPORTANT When trunk lid (1) opens, check whether trunk lid (1) collides with taillamps. Perform check with helper.
In the event they collide, correct position of height limiter (7) in relation to mounts (11).

28 Unscrew stop buffer (16) until it makes contact with the rear center section paneling (19) when the trunk lid (1) is closed. Then screw in stop buffer (16) one turn IMPORTANT Check with chalk impression.
29 Adjust left and right stop buffer (6) IMPORTANT Adjust stop buffer (6) in relation to trunk lid (1) without clearance until rear trunk lid tips (12) are flush with fender edges in area of C-pillar top sections (arrow D).
30 Check transitions between trunk lid (1) and upper rear fender with gauge (14), if necessary adjust by moving stop buffer (6). IMPORTANT The trunk lid tips (12) should be flush or a maximum of 1 mm deeper than the fender edges.
Position gauge (14) at measuring points (A, B) as illustrated.
Guide dimension (a): approx. 210 mm
Guide dimension (b): approx. 57 mm
