Function-related messages in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) alert the driver to a system state in which neither the current tire pressures nor any operation-related messages can be displayed.
Function-related messages are divided into:
- System errors
- System messages
System errors are stored in the TPM control unit (N88) with a fault code, system messages with an event code.
System messages describe a regular operating condition and there is no reason to replace system components in the event of a complaint.
The following function-related messages may occur:
System error
This message is displayed in the event of errors on the CAN data bus or failure of a system component, or if at least 1 wheel without wheel electronics is installed. A corresponding fault code is stored in the TPM control unit (N88).
System error
This message is output by the instrument cluster (A1) if it fails to receive CAN signals from the TPM control unit (N88) or if there is a fault in the instrument cluster (A1) itself. This message also appears in the event of an open circuit or broken connection in the TPM control unit (N88).
This message likewise appears if the TPM control unit (N88) is disconnected and then reconnected with the ignition ON.
System message
This system message appears when the system is activated. This is necessary when the tire inflation pressure changes, when the tires are changed or when the wheels are replaced.
The system can be activated with "ignition ON" or "engine ON".
System message
Request for activation of the system.
This system message is displayed if:
- The tire inflation pressure is more than 0.3 bar above the stored nominal pressure.
- The TPM control unit (N88) has been replaced.
- In preceding ignition sequences a red operation-related message was displayed.
This system message is also displayed for approx. 30 s every time the vehicle is restarted as soon as the monitoring function in the TPM control unit (N88) is set to "Not active".
System message
This system message is activated when the following criteria are met:
- At least 1 new wheel sensor is installed and is currently being initialized.
- External interference sources preventing data transfer.
- Temperature of at least one wheel sensor > 120°C.
- At least 1 additional wheel sensor is being carried in the vehicle (e.g. winter tires in the trunk).
Pressure display without numerical values
After activation, the pressure values are only displayed when the system has been able to match the signals to the wheels. Until the initialization sequence is complete (total driving time max. 10 min), a pressure display without numerical values is displayed instead of the pressure values.
