Remove/install steering wheel - AR46.10-P-0100T

MODIFICATION NOTES

24.4.06 Check whether a vibration damper is installed added Step 6
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move steering wheel (32) to horizontal position IMPORTANT Front wheels in straight ahead position  
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
2 Remove airbag unit from steering wheel (32) AR91.60-P-0660T
NOTES Notes on performing repair, body work and welding on vehicles with airbags and ETR units AH91.00-P-0002-01M
3 Unscrew countersunk screw (32c), steadying steering wheel (32). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace countersunk screw.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-02A 
4 Detach electrical connector (3) of steering wheel gear shift signal processing module (N135) Vehicles as of model year 04  
5 Remove steering wheel (32), passing the cables from the airbag through the opening IMPORTANTInstallation:  Align recesses of the serrations (arrows) in the steering wheel with the markings on the steering shaft.  
INSPECT Checking     
6 Check whether a vibration damper (4) is installed When replacing the steering wheel (32)
IMPORTANT Steering wheels are only available with vibration dampers. If a steering wheel is installed without a vibration damper, then the vibration damper must be removed form the new steering wheel, undo bolts (4a) to do so.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1005-02A 
7 Check fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage NOTES The clock spring contact must not be twisted when the steering wheel (32) is detached. If the clock spring contact is twisted:

Vehicles up to model year 04:
 
Set center position of clock spring contact, if necessary:
AR46.10-P-0200-01I 
Replace clock spring contact.
Vehicles as of model year 04:
AR46.10-P-0200T 
Replace clock spring contact. AR46.10-P-0200TA 
8 Install in the reverse order    
9 Conduct a road test INSPECT Tests during the road test:
Turn signal reset 
When the steering wheel (32) is offset by more than 1 tooth, satisfactory resetting of the turn signal is no longer guaranteed.
Airbag indicator lamp 
The SRS indicator lamp must not light up on full steering lock in both directions.
Steering wheel position (32) 
If the steering wheel is crooked, adjust it by max. 1 tooth.
