Location 

The rear emergency tensioning retractors with the associated squibs are each located in the particular automatic belt retractor below the cover at the C-pillar on the left and right side of the vehicle.

Task 

The emergency tensioning retractors remove the seat belt slack in the event of a head-on collision or a rear end collision and prevent the film reel effect of the rear seat belts from occurring. The close-fitting seat belt means that vehicle occupants are exposed to the deceleration forces acting on the body at an earlier stage.
