Comfort automatic air conditioning actuator motors, task - GF83.40-P-2183-01TT

General determinations on actuator motor and flap controls

Continuous positioning of the flaps.

So that the actuator motors do not run continuously in the control range, the following release function is realized in the automatic air conditioning for each flap.

Release function: Once a position has been set, the specified blower air temperature for example must change sufficiently by the next change for the release value above or below it to be under- or overshot.

Final values are approached directly (0 %, 100 %).

Anti-fogging function

The anti-fogging function prevents the windshield and side windows fogging after the engine is started, i.e. the moist air is not led to the windows immediately after starting but into the vehicle's footwell.

Solar roof function (on model 211.0 with code (419) solar module for panoramic roof)

The actuator motors are driven to the following position after 2 minutes and outside temperatures greater 10°C:

After this the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) switches off.

For

The actuator motors are moved to the following positions 2 minutes after device OFF:

For

Ignition ON: up to 30 seconds after engine ON

REST ON: 60 seconds starting with the request

Stationary heater ON: 60 seconds starting with the request

the following procedure applies:

After these times have elapsed, the flap states for the automatic or manual setting apply

Left center air outlet flap actuator motor (M2/12) and right center air outlet flap actuator motor (M2/13)

The left center air outlet flap actuator motors (M2/12) and the right center air outlet flap actuator motors (M2/13) actuate the air flap that controls the air flow to the center nozzles separately for the left and right.

Depending on the desired air outlet temperature at the center nozzle the left center air outlet flap actuator motor (M2/12) and right center air outlet flap actuator motor (M2/13) is actuated via the comfort AAC control and operating unit (N22/7) and the AC bus.

Actuation for "DEFROST" center outlet flaps 0 % (closed).

Actuation with "REST" according to regulation

Actuation with stationary heater as per the control (if fitted)

Actuation at "0" previous position retained

Actuation with ignition OFF, previous position retained

Automatic air flap control

Depending upon the following variables, the air flap can be opened up to 100 % by the left center air outlet flap actuator motors (M2/12) and right center air outlet flap actuator motors (M2/13) in line with a defined characteristic.

Air flap control via the center nozzle

In manual mode the air flap settings are determined by the selector on the center nozzle.

Blending air flap actuator motor left (M2/6) and blending air flap actuator motor right (M2/7)

The left blend air flap actuator motor (M2/6) and right blending air flap actuator motor (M2/7) are used to set the ventilation temperature of heater and air conditioning separately for left and right.

The left blending air flap actuator motor (M2/6) and right blending air flap actuator motor (M2/7) are actuated by the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) and AC bus depending on the temperature buttons selected and the actual interior temperature according to defined characteristics and move the blend air flaps. The flaps open or close the passage of air through the heating system heat exchanger in order to mix hot air with fresh air or cooled air in order to achieve the desired in-car temperature.

The specified flap angles of the blend air flaps are determined by the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) depending upon the following information:

blending air flaps closed no air through the mixing chamber and thus no heating of the air.

blend air flaps open all air flows through the mixing chamber with maximum heating of air.

Left defroster vent flap actuator motor (M2/8) and right defroster vent flap actuator motor (M2/9)

The left defroster flap actuator motor (M2/8) and right defroster flap actuator motor (M2/9) operate the defroster nozzle flaps for controlling the air flow to the windshield defroster nozzle and side window defroster nozzles. By pressing the window defrost switch (N22/7s3) on the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) the left defroster vent flap actuator motor (M2/8) and right defroster vent flap actuator motor (M2/9) is actuated via the AC bus and operates the defroster vent flaps, which assume the following positions for various requirements

Actuation at "defrosting" defroster nozzle flaps 100 % open

Actuation at "0" defroster nozzle flaps 100 % open

Automatic flap control

The defroster vent flaps are opened depending on the following values

linear up to 100 % open.

Left footwell flap actuator motor (M2/10) and right footwell flap actuator motor (M2/11)

The left footwell flap actuator motor (M2/10) and right footwell flap actuator motor (M2/11) operate the footwell flap that controls the air flow to the front footwell and rear legroom separately for each side.

By pressing the air distribution wheel of the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) the left footwell flap actuator motor (M2/10) and right footwell actuator motor (M2/11) are actuated via the AC bus and therefore operate the footwell flaps, which assume the following positions for various requirements:

Actuation at "defrost" footwell flaps 0 % (closed)

actuation at "REST" in accordance with regulation

actuation at "0" no change

Automatic footwell flap control

The footwell flaps are opened depending on the following values

linear up to 100 % open.

Fresh air and recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5)

The fresh air and recirculated air actuator motors (M2/5) close or open the fresh air supply by operating the fresh air and recirculated air flaps.

By pressing the recirculated air switch (N22/7s2) on the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) the fresh air flaps and recirculated air flaps actuator motor (M2/5) is actuated via the AC bus.

In recirculation mode, the recirculation flap is open and the fresh air flap is closed.

Air is suctioned from the vehicle interior into the comfort automatic air conditioning housing by the blower.

In fresh air mode, the fresh air flap is open and the recirculation flap is closed. Fresh air is suctioned into the comfort automatic air conditioning housing by the blower.

When the recirculated air switch (N22/7s2) is operated manually the system goes into 100 % recirculated air mode for a limited time. This is displayed by the function LED. Time limit function:

After ignition ON, a non-recurring 100 % automatic recirculated air is possible for 30 minutes. After expiry of this period the system switches to 80 % recirculated air or fresh air, depending upon the conditions.

If automatic recirculated air is required after engine ON, fresh air will be circulated initially for 30 seconds. Following this then 80 % automatic recirculated air is actuated and 10 seconds later as required then switches to 100 % automatic recirculated air.

Tunnel function

Activation of the tunnel function:

Only possible where the recirculated air LED is not illuminated. pressing the recirculated air switch (N22/7s2) for more than 1.5 s Reaction: fresh air and recirculated air flaps are driven into recirculated air position. Now the 4 windows and the tilting/sliding roof are closed in a staggered manner.

If the recirculated air-LED is extinguished manually or by the automatic timer, the fresh air and recirculated air flap moves to the fresh air position, however, the windows and the sliding roof remain closed.

Deactivation of tunnel function:

Only possible where the recirculated air LED is illuminated. pressing the recirculated air switch (N22/7s2) for more than 1.5 s Reaction: fresh air and recirculated air flaps are driven into fresh air position. Now the 4 windows and the tilting/sliding roof are opened in a staggered manner.

If the recirculated air LED is reset manually (operating the recirculated air switch (N22/7s2) for less than 1.5 seconds), then only the fresh air flap and recirculated air flap is moved into the recirculated air position

Special functions of the fresh air/recirculated air control:

Activated charcoal filter flap adjustment motor (A32m2)

The activated charcoal filter flap adjustment motor (A32m2) is actuated by pressing the activated charcoal filter button (LED lights up) on the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) and operates the activated charcoal filter flap for connecting the activated charcoal filter. This closes the bypass flap in the comfort automatic air conditioning evaporator housing, with the result that the air drawn in by the blower is forced through two activated charcoal filters for cleaning.

Rear left blending air flap actuator motor (M16/30) and Right rear blending air flap actuator motor (M16/31)

The left rear blending air flap actuator motor (M16/30) and right rear blending air flap actuator motor (M16/31) are used to set the ventilation temperature of the heater and air conditioning in the rear for each side separately.

The left rear blend air flap actuator motor (M16/30) and right rear blend air flap actuator motor (M16/31) are actuated by the Comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) or control panel rear switch group (S81) and the AC bus depending on the temperature button selection and the actual interior temperature according to defined characteristics, and move the blend air flaps.

The flaps open and close the air passage through the heater heat exchanger in order to mix heated and fresh or cooled air in the correct proportion which is required to achieve the desired interior temperature in the rear.

The specified flap angles of the blend air flaps in the rear are determined by the comfort AAC control and operating module (N22/7) depending on the following information:

blending air flaps closed no air through the mixing chamber and thus no heating of the air.

blending air flap open - all air flows through the mixing chamber with maximum heating of air.
