Design
The activated charcoal canister consists of a plastic housing filled with activated charcoal granulates.
The activated charcoal canister is divided into various chambers by partitions to achieve an optimal flow of the activated charcoal granulates.
The activated charcoal canister is larger (contents approx. 3.5 liter, usually approx. 1.5 liter), filled with a different activated charcoal and equipped with the activated charcoal canister shutoff valve.
Function
The fuel vapors released from the fuel tank (
also when refueling) are bonded to the activated charcoal. When purging is activated, they are drawn in again by the engine and combusted. The activated charcoal is completely regenerated in the ideal case.
The ventilation of the fuel tank (under vacuum) and the deventilation of the fuel tank (at excess pressure) take place through the activated charcoal canister.
