The central gateway control unit (N93) passes on global information such as model series and national version to the control units via CAN. These data are placed on the CAN in cycles.
During normal operation of the vehicle, information which is available on one CAN and are needed on another CAN for control unit functions are routed from the central gateway control unit (N93).
In diagnosis mode, i.e. when STAR DIAGNOSIS is connected, the diagnosis inquiry messages from STAR DIAGNOSIS must be routed to the corresponding control units.
Vice versa the diagnosis answer messages must be routed to STAR DIAGNOSIS by the control unit. This gateway functionality is described as diagnosis gateway.
