The tailgate can be opened hydraulically from the vehicle passenger compartment with the tailgate remote opening switch (S15) . For this purpose it is necessary to press the switch for at least 0.5s. Pressing the switch again interrupts or continues the hydraulic tailgate opening operation

The tailgate can be opened hydraulically from the outside with the trunk lid exterior external operation switch (S88/8) For this purpose, actuate the switch once Pressing the switch again interrupts or continues the tailgate hydraulic opening operation

Operating procedure

Actuation of the tailgate remote opening switch (S15) is read in by the left front door control module (N69/1) If the function of this switch is enabled, the left front door control module (N69/1) , sends the command to open the tailgate via the CAN interior compartment bus to the tailgate closing control module (N121/1).

Actuation of the trunk lid exterior external operation switch (S88/8) is read in by the tailgate control module (N111) If the function of this switch is enabled, the tailgate control module (N111) sends a command to open the tailgate via the CAN interior compartment bus to the tailgate closing control module (N121/1).

The tailgate closing control module (N121/1) starts the tailgate hydraulic pump (M51/1).

The tailgate hydraulic pump (M51/1) runs filling the hydraulic cylinder with oil and opening the tailgate to the end stop over an articulated hinge.

When the tailgate reaches the end position the trunk lid/tailgate opening angle recognition sensor (B24/16) is actuated and a signal sent to the tailgate closing control module (N121/1)

If the tailgate remote opening switch (S15) or the tailgate closing switch (S62/36) are actuated during the opening procedure, the tailgate remains in its current position.

Limitation of opening position

The so-called garage position can be activated and deactivated with the second control level on the instrument cluster (A1) in the vehicle menu with the submenu tailgate/trunk lid opening limitation The tailgate then opens to a defined position when this function is active.

The tailgate is unlocked by the left front door control module (N69/1) via the tailgate control module (N111) via a CAN message. All components for tailgate closing are consolidated in the tailgate locking unit (A72)
