The switch positions of the following components are read in by the steering column module via the local interconnect network (LIN): 

• Left multifunction steering wheel button group
  • Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
  • System selection button (S110s3)
  • Fanfare horn system button
• Right multifunction steering wheel button group
  • Buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
  • Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
  • Fanfare horn system button
• Left steering wheel gear shifter and right steering wheel gear shifter (vehicles up to 31.5.06 with code (428) Steering wheel shift buttons)
• Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (AMG vehicles and vehicles as of 1.6.06 with code (428) Steering wheel shift buttons)

If several functions are simultaneously requested at the left multifunction steering wheel button group or the right multifunction steering wheel button group, the instrument cluster will always only activate one function.

Prioritization for simultaneous button press at the left multifunction steering wheel button group: 

• Fanfare horn system button
• System select button (S110s3)
• Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)

Prioritization for simultaneous button press at the right multifunction steering wheel button group: 

• Fanfare horn system button
• Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
• Buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
