Location 

The communication control unit is located under the armrest's stowage compartment in the center console.

Task 

• Interface from and to mobile phone between COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) and the mobile phone connected to the cell phone separation point and the mobile phone adapter cable

The communication control unit also performs the following tasks:

• Receiving signals
• Transmitting signals

Receiving signals 

• 5 V power supply from COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Switch-on or switch off signal from COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Voice signals from the VCS [SBS] microphone (B25/7) via the COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Mobile phone signals and data from COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Control signals from following components over COMAND operating, display and controller unit:
  • Telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
  • Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
• Control signals from mobile phone buttons over adapter cable and cell phone separation point from mobile phone
• Mobile phone signals and data over adapter cable and cell phone separation point from mobile phone
• Voice signals via the adapter cable and the cell phone separation point from the mobile phone

Transmitting signals 

• Switch-on or switch-off signal over cell phone separation point and adapter cable to mobile phone
• Voice signals over cell phone separation point and adapter cable to mobile phone
• Mobile phone signals and data over cell phone separation point and adapter cable to mobile phone
• Control signals over cell phone separation point and adapter cable to mobile phone from following components:
  • Telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit
  • Multifunction steering wheel button group
• Control signals from buttons on mobile phone to COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Mobile phone signals and data from mobile phone to COMAND operating, display and controller unit
• Voice signals from mobile phone to COMAND operating, display and controller unit

Only the communication control unit is supplied with power (5 V). The mobile phone is not supplied with power via the cell phone separation point or the adapter cable, i.e., the mobile phone is not charged.

The mobile phone is connected directly to the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) over the cell phone separation point and adapter cable.
