REMOVING Remove

1 Remove navigation CD and cassette from Audio 50 APS radio    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
2 Disconnect battery ground line AR54.10-P-0003TA
3 Remove inner paneling on right side of load compartment IMPORTANT In vehicles without code (220) Parktronic system (PTS) or without
Code (404) Left multicontour seat or without
Code (405) Right multicontour seat or without
Code (433) Left dynamic seat, incl.
multicontour seat or without
Code (434) Right dynamic seat, incl. multicontour seat or without

5 Remove hazard warning triangle    
6 Remove SAM control unit with fuse and relay box in luggage compartment IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors. AR54.21-P-1258TA
7 Audio 50 APS radio IMPORTANT The Audio 50 APS radio is no longer required. AR82.60-P-7502T
INSTALLING Install     
8 Extend fiber optic cable ring for components to be retrofitted   AN82.64-P-0001-05TZ 
NOTES Notes on avoiding damage to fiber optic cables during repair work AH82.60-P-0001-05AK
9 Retrofit wiring harness for navigation processor (N41/1)   AN82.61-P-0001-01TBB 
10 Install SAM control unit with fuse and relay box into luggage compartment   AR54.21-P-1258TA
11 Retrofit navigation processor (N41/1) in trunk In vehicles with code (220) Parktronic system (PTS) or with
Code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Beru) or with
Code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Siemens) or with
Code (889) Keyless-Go

13 Install hazard warning triangle    
14 Install left inner paneling in trunk   AR68.30-P-1180T
15 Install COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT Wrap felt tape around on-board GPS antenna line (no longer required) of Audio 50 APS radio and strap down in center console. AR82.85-P-1000T
16 Connect ground cable to battery   AR54.10-P-0003TA
17 Connect up STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
18 Perform basic programming   AR00.19-P-0200T
19 Flash Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) components that do not have the latest software release   AR54.21-P-0014Y
20 Perform variant coding with STAR DIAGNOSIS to activate the functions of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT The instructions in DAS must be followed.
After completing the variant coding, perform a quick test and delete the fault memory.
 
21 Add special equipment to the vehicle data card and to the online vehicle data card IMPORTANT Delete code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio and enter code (527) COMAND APS with navigation.
Delete old radio identification number and enter new one.
 
22 Close STAR DIAGNOSIS   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
23 Perform function check of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT See operator's manual of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).
