General information on masking for paintwork - AH98.00-P-0200-01BK
When masking off and covering, always ensure that detachable parts that are not to be treated and the vehicle interior are protected from the paint mist.
Covering on beadings and offsets:
- Mask present paintwork approx. 5 mm away from offset. Bond on adhesive tape (1), fold it over and secure with adhesive strips (2).
The painted exterior surface of the body is divided by strips, covers and joints in sectional paintwork. This results in a minimum of paintwork.
Beadings and steped edges which are not fitted with trim strips are to be masked so as to obtain a smooth transition to the existing paintwork.
After completing the paintwork (before drying), remove the masking tape (1) so that the wet paint can blend at the transition without forming an edge.
Masking fold areas when painting adjacent areas (e.g. door)
Method A:
- Mask off the fold area at a distance of approx. 5 mm to the area to be painted using masking paper (6).
- Overlap this with masking tape (3), fold it over and secure with adhesive strips (4) so that it abuts the area to be painted. Close the door.
Method B:
- Mask off the fold area at a distance of approx. 5 mm to the area to be painted using masking paper (6).
- Fold over one edge of the masking tape (5) by approx. one quarter of the width and stick to remaining part.
- Secure the prepared masking tape (5) in the area of the fold so that the stuck-together side abuts the area to be painted. Close the door.
Method C:
- Glue soft tape (7) without using masking paper into fold so that it abuts the surface to be painted. Close the door.
Masking doors and flaps
On doors and flaps, mask the inner area using masking tape and paper.
