Location 

The front warning indicator is located in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster (A1), the rear warning indicator is located in the rear on the headliner.

Design 

In the multifunction display the front warning indicator displays 12 yellow and 4 red segments and two yellow horizontal "stand-by bars".

The rear warning indicator has 12 yellow and 4 red LEDs and a sound transmitter integrated into it. Here the two inner LEDs are also used as a stand-by display.

Task 

• Obstacle recognition

• If an obstacle is detected in front of the vehicle the distances are notified to the driver by lighting of the yellow segments, then through lighting of the red segments in the multifunction display and also by output of an acoustic warning. The acoustic warning message is issued for an obstacle in front by the instrument cluster.
• When an obstacle is detected behind the vehicle the distances are notified visually to the driver first by lighting the yellow LEDs, then by lighting the red LEDs and also by an acoustic warning message emitted by the sound transmitter integrated into the rear warning indicator.

• Stand-by

  The stand-by status means that the Parktronic system (PTS) is active but it is unable to detect an obstacle. To this end, the two yellow horizontal "stand-by bars" of the warning indicator in the multifunction display and the two inner yellow LEDs in the rear warning indicator light at reduced brightness.

• Self test

  Following successful self-test all LEDs in the rear warning indicator are fully actuated for 1 s.

• Malfunction

  If a malfunction occurs during operation, this is indicated by the red segments or red LEDs of each affected warning indicator lighting up. A warning sound is not emitted.

• Fault

If a system error or a fault is detected during a function test while driving, the red segments or red LEDs of the affected warning indicator are actuated. In addition a warning chime is emitted for 2 seconds.
