	Draining
	Risk of explosion  from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant.	Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.	-
	Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work	All models fitted with air conditioning	-

	During all steps, the operating instructions for the filling unit must be followed.
	Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/ rear-end door or sliding roof.	When moving components, ensure that no body parts or limbs are within the operating range of moving parts.	-
1	Open engine hood and raise to vertical position		AR88.40-P-1000V
2	Remove sealing caps (1)	In model 171.473, the sealing cap of the high-pressure line (3) filling connection is located on the left longitudinal member.

4	Suction off refrigerant	Note down suctioned off compressor oil quantity.

	Evacuate
5.1	Replace drier cartridge	Only if refrigerant circuit has been opened.

	Charging
7	Replace the quantity of compressor oil noted when evacuating the air conditioning system with new compressor oil and route back to the refrigerant circuit	If the wrong quantity of compressor oil is refilled then the refrigerant compressor may be damaged.
