The following steps apply for the left side of the front upper longitudinal member (1) and should be performed on the right side in the same manner when damaged.
- Expose spot welds on front upper longitudinal member (1) (areas A, B, C, D and E).
- Cut spot welds out of upper longitudinal member (1) with
Vario Drill spot weld milling cutter or
spherical milling cutter (area A).
- Cut spot welds out of front upper longitudinal member (1) with
Vario Drill spot weld milling cutter or
spot weld milling cutter (areas B, C and E).
- Drill dia. 6.5 mm spot welds in front upper longitudinal member (1) (area D).
- Remove front upper longitudinal member (1).
- Sand connection surfaces down to bare metal in shaded areas.
Sand spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding and drilling chips with wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
