Voice output, function with code 530 - GF82.85-P-3001SKU

MODEL 171.4 with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)

The navigation feature of the navigation system (based on Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) data basis) is assisted by the following voice output.

IMPORTANT The compass direction (North, South, East and West) is specified during navigation. No compass direction is given in the case of streets (e.g. in towns) which are designated by a name.

The voice data that are stored on the navigation DVD as individual word segments are automatically transferred from the DVD to the navigation processor (N41/1), where they are stored. The navigation processor (N41/1) combines these word segments into complete instructions or information and generates the relevant low frequency (LF) signals.

If necessary, the LF signals that are generated in this way are relayed internally to the audio signal processing and transferred to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). There the audio signals are amplified and output via the vehicle speakers.

IMPORTANT Several driving recommendations in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.

Manual voice loading from DVD

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has various different languages:

The language can be selected using the "Settings" menu. The voice output data are then transferred from the DVD to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), where they are stored in non-volatile memory.

IMPORTANT Language loading takes several seconds and modifies both the voice output and the menu texts on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Voice loading takes place again automatically after a power disconnection.

IMPORTANT While a language is being loaded by the DVD, severe vibrations (e.g. bad road conditions) should be avoided. Otherwise the voice output might be broken up. In such cases it is necessary to reload the language.

Superimposition of voice output and an audio source.

If voice output is active at the same time as an audio source (e.g. CD, radio), the two signal sources are superimposed.

Volume of voice output

The voice output volume can be adjusted during voice output. A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume. The volume is reduced during voice output, for example. If the specified volume difference to the audio signal is not maintained, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) then lowers the audio signal level until the specified volume difference is restored. After voice output has taken place, the volume of the audio signal is increased to match that of the voice output. The volume of the voice output cannot be reduced to below a certain minimum level.

Voice output mute circuit

The navigation voice output can be muted by pressing the "MUTE" button during voice output. The mute feature applies only for the current voice output. If an audio source (e.g. CD, radio, etc.) can be heard at the same time as navigation voice output, the first press of the "MUTE" button mutes the navigation voice output and the seconds press mutes all playback.
