Radio reception, function The rod antenna (A28) receives radio frequency signals in the FM, MW, LW and SW range. The left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) filters the radio frequency band frequencies from the radio frequency signals received, and amplifies them. The amplified signals are then transmitted to the radio receiver by the left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) via a coaxial line The radio receiver demodulates the radio frequency signals, in other words it separates the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible). The demodulated audio signals are amplified and converted to sound signals by the vehicle speakers.

The radio menu can be reached by actuating the corresponding radio function keys. Different ways of tuning in stations:

• Tuning by station list
• Tuning by type of programs list
• Tuning by frequency list
• Tuning by station search
• Tuning by station search on multifunction steering wheel
• Tuning by autostore memory
• Tuning by scan search (the stations of a waveband are played for 8 seconds)
• Tuning by hand
• Tuning by station memory
• Tuning by manual frequency input (via the 12-key panel of the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3))

Furthermore, the following functions are available. They are indicated on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3):

• Noise suppression
• Selection of radio data system stations which can be received well
• RDS functions

Radio Data System function (regional mode) 

In addition to the radio program, many radio stations (e.g. FM) transmit additional inaudible digital information such as station names, type of programs (e.g. pop, culture, etc.) and traffic radio recognition.

This information is evaluated by the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) and indicated on the display if the following prerequisites are fulfilled:

• RDS (radio data system) is activated
• An RDS station is tuned
