Radio reception, function
The rod antenna (A28) receives FM and AM (LW, SW) radio frequency signals.
The left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) filters the radio frequency band frequencies from the radio frequency signals received, and amplifies them. The amplified signals are then transmitted to the radio receiver by the left antenna amplifier module (A2/64)with a coaxial line.
The radio receiver demodulates the radio frequency signals, in other words it separates the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible). The demodulated audio signals are amplified and converted to sound signals by the vehicle speakers.
Different ways of tuning in stations:
- Tuning by station list
- Tuning by type of programs list
- Tuning by frequency list
- Tuning by station search
- Tuning by station search on multifunction steering wheel
- Tuning by autostore memory
- Tuning by scan search (the stations of a waveband are played for 8 seconds)
- Tuning by hand
- Tuning by station memory
- Tuning by manual frequency input (via the 12-key panel of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56))
Moreover, the following functions are available (they are indicated on the display of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56)):
- Noise suppression
- Selection of radio data system stations which can be received well
- "Radio data system" function

In addition to the radio program, many radio stations (e.g. FM) transmit additional inaudible digital information such as station names, type of programs (e.g. pop, culture, etc.) and traffic radio recognition. This information is evaluated by the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) and displayed on the monitor, if the following prerequisites are fulfilled:
- "Radio data system" function is activated.
- A radio data system station is tuned in.
