Operation of the radio (A2) at the multifunction steering wheel
The left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) as well as the multifunction display on top (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) can be used to operate various systems that are controlled via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), and system information can be displayed. These include:
- Audio systems (radio, CD changer.)
- Telephone
The entire data exchange between the instrument cluster (A1) and the radio (A2) takes place via the local interconnect network (LIN) bus, the MOST and the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).
All the button operations on the multifunction steering wheel are read in voltage-coded by the steering column module (N80) using the LIN bus and placed on the CAN-B. The instrument cluster (A1) recognizes the coded messages and authorizes, by way of the multifunction display on top (A1p13), a display of the just activated or operated system (audio or telephone).

Readout:
- Set frequency band and possible memory slot number
- Name (only for RDS station (Radio Data System)) and frequency of the station
- Information whether station search was accomplished with frequency or stored station list
Operation:
- Volume
- Station search via station list or frequency, next/previous station
CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6)
Readout:
- Number of CD currently playing
- Number of CD track currently being played
Operation:
- Volume
- Selection of track
- next/previous track
Telephone
Readout:
- Request to enter PIN
- Name of the provider
- Vehicle outside transmit or receive range of telephone network
- Telephone number (if stored) or name of caller (if also transferred via radio)
Operation:
- Volume
- Selection of name from stored telephone book, display of telephone number and memory location number of party called.
- Start making a call
- Accepting a call
- Dial repeat
- Reject or end call
