Operating the radio (A2) at the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)

Various systems that are controlled via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) can be operated and system information can be displayed with the aid of the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) as well as the upper multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). These include:

Audio systems:
Telephone

The entire data transfer between the MFL and the radio (A2) takes place via the local interconnect network (LIN) to the steering column module (N80), and then via the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).

All the signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) on the MFL are read in by the steering column module (N80) and placed on the CAN-B. The instrument cluster (A1) recognizes the coded messages and authorizes the display of the system that is currently active or operated (audio or telephone) via the upper multifunction display (A1p13). In parallel, the radio (A2) transfers the respective CAN-B signals to the MOST by converting the CAN-B signals into light pulses, and in this manner actuates the necessary system components, e.g., the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6).

Operating and display options of the upper multifunction display (A1p13)

The radio (A2) can display the following information:

Set frequency band and possible memory slot number
Name and frequency of the station
Information whether station search was accomplished with frequency or via stored station list

Operation:

Volume
Station search via station list or frequency, next or previous station

The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) can display the following information:

Number of CD currently playing
Number of track currently being played on the CD
Runtime of current track

Operation:

Volume
Select track (next of previous track)

The portable CTEL (A34/6) can display the following information:

Entry request for PIN (personal identification number)
Name of service provider
Vehicle outside transmit or receive range of telephone network
Subscriber's number (where stored) or name of caller (where also transmitted by radio).

Selection of name from stored telephone book, display of telephone number and memory location number of party called
Start call
Accepting a call

Reject or end a call
