Function requirements:

Function

The function washing is activated by pressing the combination switch (S4) beyond the catch point. The steering column module (N80) reads in the combination switch (S4) and forwards the signal to the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1), which then directly actuates the window washer fluid pump (M5/1).

If washing takes place

IMPORTANT In the event of a continuous wipe request, the window washer fluid pump (M5/1) actuation is interrupted after 15 s.

Follow-up wiping

After wiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch (S4) is no longer activated. The number of afterwipe processes depends on the time for which the combination switch (S4) is operated.

If the window washer fluid pump (M5/1) was requested for t < 1 s, a single afterwipe is performed, at t > 1 s three afterwipes are performed. If, within this afterwipe period, wash is actuated again, then three afterwipes are always performed.

An afterwipe occurs after the following control:

IMPORTANT The "wash" information is made available to the rain/light sensor for vehicles with code (345) Rain sensor by way of the overhead control panel control unit.

Automatic operation of the headlamp cleaning system (HCS [SRA]) (with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system)

With the low beams switched on, the HCS [SRA] pump (M5/2) is automatically switched on by the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) after fifteen operations of the windshield washer system on vehicles up to 31.5.07 or, for vehicles as of 1.6.07, after five operations (time interval between the individual operations t > 2.5 s).

With each windshield washer system request, the internal counter in the driver SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) is incremented upwards by one until the corresponding value is reached. The HCS [SRA] pump (M5/2) is then actuated and the counter reset to zero.

IMPORTANT The internal counter is also reset to zero at circuit 15 OFF or low beams OFF.
