Function requirements:

IMPORTANT With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) via the handsfree system.

With the UPCI system it is possible to operate different portable CTELs (A34/6) such as Nokia, Siemens or Motorola in the vehicle. Only the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) has to be replaced to do this.

The UPCI system consists of the following components:

IMPORTANT The portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) of the vehicle via the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15).

The UPCI system contains the following functions:

IMPORTANT The deadlines for the functions "W@P", "MB-Net", and "e-mail" cannot be exactly limited to 31.05.05. The functions "W@P", "MB-Net", and "e-mail" will be omitted as they are phased into production.

The UPCI system is manually activated using the on/off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6), the activation takes place automatically when circuit 15 is activated via the MOST by means of a wake-up pulse by one of the listed audio sources.

The UPCI system is manually deactivated using the on/off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6), or the deactivation takes place automatically after the run-on time that can be set individually on the portable CTEL (A34/6).

The telephone calls can be accepted or terminated by doing the following:

The voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone group (B25), and the voice output takes place via the audio speakers that are installed in each case. The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be in the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) to do this.

A range of indicators notifying the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the portable CTEL (A34/6) appear in the displays of the following components:

To ensure the maximum fidelity for the user via the hands-free system microphone group (B25), the audio sources activated via the audio device installed are automatically muted during a telephone conversation.

The volume of the hands-free system can be individually adjusted by the user using the portable CTEL (A34/6) or via the MFL using the + and a button, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1). The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be in the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) to do this. Furthermore, the UPCI system can be operated using the following buttons integrated in the MFL:

This is shown by a range of indicators on the displays of the following components notifying the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the portable CTEL (A34/6) :

IMPORTANT The UPCI system is compatible with the D-net and the E-net, which is made possible via the installation of the E-net compensator (A28/3).
