Entire function
Basically it is differentiated between the locator lighting and the headlamp switch-off delay, whereby the same components for illumination of the area surrounding the vehicle are actuated respectively.
The following lamps are actuated:
- Left standing and parking lamp (E1e3)
- Right standing and parking lamp (E2e3)
- Left front fog lamp (E5/1)
- Right fog lamp (E5/2)
- Left front side-marker lamp

- Right front side-marker lamp
- Left stop lamp, taillamp and parking lamp (E3e9)
- Right stop lamp, taillamp and parking lamp (E4e9)
- left license plate lamp (E19/1)
- Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
- Left side-marker lamp
- Right side-marker lamp

Function requirements
- Function activated via instrument cluster (A1)
- Automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1) (until 31.5.04) or the rain/light sensor (B38/2) (from 1.6.04) signals "darkness"
- Rotary light switch (S1) in the "auto" position (for code (494) USA version)
Function
When unlocking the vehicle using the transmitter key (A8/1) the function is used to illuminate the area surrounding the vehicle for a 40 s time interval permanently configured in the instrument cluster (A1).
Function abort
- Driver door opened
- C. 15C ON
Deactivating function
- The locator lighting function can be switched on and off in the instrument cluster (A1).

Function
The headlamp switch-off delay serves to illuminate the area surrounding the vehicle after exiting the vehicle.
When the engine is switched off, the headlamp switch-off delay is activated for 1 min.
The timer is restarted when a door or the trunk lid is opened. After the last door or the trunk lid has been closed, the lights will switch off after 15 s.
When the headlamp switch-off delay is active, the driver-side SAM control unit (N10/10) sends the corresponding signal to the instrument cluster (A1), whereupon the lights warning buzzer (A1h1) and circuit 58d are suppressed.
When the standing lamp function is activated due to the driving lamp in the background of the headlamp switch-off delay, the warning buzzer (A1h1) remains activated.
Interrupting function
When circuit 15 is switched on, the headlamp switch-off delay is suppressed until the function requirements are present again. If an alarm of the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) is deployed, the headlamp switch-off delay is also interrupted.
