Remove/install rear suspension strut - AR32.25-P-1016RA (without Active Body Control)

MODEL 230 except CODE (487) Active Body Control (ABC)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. IMPORTANT The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS:
Select menu item "SBC-Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Deactivate 'SBC' system".
Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.

2 Remove side paneling in trunk   AR68.30-P-4800R
3 Unscrew nuts (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1004-04B 
4 Remove rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050Z
5 Unscrew bolts (4a) and detach brake caliper (4) from wheel carrier NOTES Hang up brake caliper (4) to relieve the load on the brake hose. Brake hose may otherwise be damaged. AR42.10-P-0080R
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1004-12B 
6 Remove the cover of the spring control arm (9)    
7 Raise the wheel carrier using the transmission jack and transmission platform until the rear axle shaft is horizontal Transmission jack, see GOTIS

8 Loosen the camber strut bolted connection (2) on the wheel carrier IMPORTANTInstallation:  The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the bolt.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-02C 
9 Loosen the thrust arm bolted connection (3) on the wheel carrier IMPORTANTInstallation:  The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the bolted connection.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-05C 
10 Remove the link rod bolted connection (11) of the stabilizer bar (7) to wheel carrier TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.20-P-1001-04G 
11 Remove torque strut bolted connection (5) to wheel carrier IMPORTANTInstallation:  The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the bolted connection.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1002-03C 
12 Remove tie rod bolted connection (8) on wheel carrier IMPORTANTInstallation:  The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the bolted connection.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1001-04C 
13 Remove spring control arm bolted connection (10) on wheel carrier IMPORTANTInstallation:  The rear axle shaft must be horizontal when tightening the bolted connection.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA35.20-P-1004-01A 
14 Remove suspension strut bolted connection (9a) on spring control arm (9), swivel spring control arm (9) downwards and remove suspension strut (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1005-04B 
15 Install in the reverse order    
16 Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS IMPORTANT The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS:
Select "Initial startup after repair"/"Remove/install brake pads" menu item.
Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.
 
17 Aligning rear axle See: ↓  
    Perform chassis alignment. AR40.20-P-0200R
