The switch positions of the following components are read in voltage-coded from steering column module (N80): 

• Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
  • Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
  • System selection button (S110s3)
  • Fanfare horn system button (S110s5)
• Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
  • Buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
  • Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
  • Fanfare horn system button (S111s5)
• Left steering wheel gear shifter (S110/2) and right steering wheel gear shifter (S111/2) (vehicles up to 31.5.06 with code (428) Steering wheel shift buttons)
• Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS (S110/1) and steering wheel gear shifter PLUS (S111/1) (vehicles as of 1.6.06 with code (428) Steering wheel shift buttons)

Steering column module (N80) detects the respective request and places it on the Controller Area Network bus, class B (interior) (CAN-B).

If several functions are simultaneously requested by a button press, the instrument cluster (A1) will always only activate one function.

• System select button (S110s3)
• Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
