- Expose spot welds on A-pillar closing panel (1) and A-pillar support (2) (areas A, B, C, D, E, F and G).
- Cut out spot welds on A-pillar closing panel (1) and A-pillar support (2) using
spot weld milling cutter or
ball cutter (areas A, B, C, D, E, F and G).
Cut through two sheet metal layers (area B).
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar closing panel (1), upper firewall support (3) and lower firewall support (4) (areas H, J, K, L and M).
- Cut out spot welds on A-pillar closing panel (1), upper firewall support (3) and lower firewall support (4) using
spot weld milling cutter or
ball cutter (areas H, J, K, L and M).
Cut through two sheet metal layers (area K).
- Heat A-pillar closing panel (1) in cross-hatched areas using
hot air gun.
Cross-hatched areas are additionally bonded.
- Completely remove damaged A-pillar closing panel (1).
- Grind mating surfaces on vehicle down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas using
round wire brush.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding and drill shavings using wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
- Using zinc dust paint, coat insides of spot weld flanges that were not additionally bonded.
To prevent adhesion problems, do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint. (areas N, O and P).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
