Remove/install parking brake pedal assembly - AR42.20-P-0510RT

MODIFICATION NOTES

1.9.10 "Perform brake test on test bench" reference changed Test sequence augmented/revised
REMOVING Removing     
1 Secure vehicle to prevent it from rolling away  and then release the parking brake NOTES It is essential to take suitable measured to prevent the vehicle from rolling away in order to avoid risk of accident  
2 Remove cover below dashboard (3) IMPORTANT Left. AR68.10-P-1500RT
3 Remove front door sill molding (5) IMPORTANT Left. AR68.30-P-4100RT
4 Remove trim (4) in the front footwell IMPORTANT Left. AR68.30-P-4010RT
5 Operate the unlocking (6) and hold, unscrewing the bolts (7) in the process    
6 Detach internal component of unlocking (8) from the unlocking cable (1) NOTES Do not buckle the unlocking cable in order to avoid damage.
IMPORTANT Carefully pull the internal component of unlocking out of the dashboard until the ball head (9) of the unlocking cable is accessible. Unhook the ball head of the unlocking cable from the internal component of the unlocking.
IMPORTANT Make sure that the parking brake has been released.
 
7 Disconnect electrical connectors (10) from the parking brake indicator switch (S12)    
8 Detach circlip (12) from the parking brake cable (11) IMPORTANT Pry off circlip carefully.
IMPORTANT Make sure that the parking brake has been released.
 
9 Unlock notch (14) using a suitable tool and pull the latch rail (15) downwards out of the parking brake pedal assembly (2) together with the parking brake cable (11) NOTES Do not buckle the parking brake cable in order to avoid damage.
IMPORTANT In order to unlock the notch (14), it must be pressed outwards slightly (towards the A-pillar) until it releases the latch rail (15).
IMPORTANT Make sure that the parking brake has been released.
 
10 Unscrew bolts (13) and remove the parking brake pedal assembly (2) NOTES Do not buckle the unlocking cable (1) in order to avoid damage.
IMPORTANT Slip the unlocking cable out of the dashboard when removing the parking brake pedal assembly.
 
11 Unhook the unlocking cable (1) at the parking brake pedal assembly (2), unclip the plastic clip and remove the unlocking cable SPECIAL TOOL Snap-release tool Fig 4
INSTALLING Install     
12 Clip the plastic clip on the unlocking cable into the parking brake pedal assembly and hook in the unlocking cable at the parking brake pedal assembly    
13 Position the parking brake pedal assembly (2) on the A-pillar and screw in the bolts (13) NOTES Do not buckle the unlocking cable in order to avoid damage.
IMPORTANT When positioning the parking brake pedal assembly slip the unlocking cable into the dashboard.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt for pedal assembly of parking brake to A-pillar *BA42.20-P-1001-01J 
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts All models AH00.00-N-0001-01A
14 Slip the latch rail (15) together with the parking brake cable (11) into the parking brake pedal assembly (2) and engage the first  splines of the latch rail in the notch (14) NOTES Do not buckle the parking brake cable in order to avoid damage.  
15 Ensure that the parking brake cable (11) is correctly seated in the parking brake pedal assembly (2) and mount the circlip (12) IMPORTANT Ensure that the circlip engages correctly in the groove.  
16 Put the electrical connectors (10) onto the parking brake indicator switch (S12)    
17 Route the unlocking cable (1) and install the internal component of the unlocking (8) on the unlocking cable NOTES Do not buckle the unlocking cable in order to avoid damage.
IMPORTANT Guide the unlocking cable through the installation opening of the unlocking in the dashboard, then slip into the internal component of the unlocking and hook the ball head of the unlocking cable into the internal component of the unlocking.
 
18 Push the internal component of the unlocking (8) back into the installation opening of the dashboard and attach with the two bolts (7)    
19 Apply and release the parking brake several times in succession IMPORTANT By applying and releasing the parking brake several times the length of the parking brake cable is adjusted via the automatic cable slack adjuster. In the process the latch rail (15) moves into its correct position in the parking brake pedal assembly.  
DANGER Risk of death  caused by limbs being caught  or crushed  by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY STOP switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A
20 Carry out brake test on the test stand AP42.00-P-4290BA 
21 Install trim (4) in the front footwell IMPORTANT Left. AR68.30-P-4010RT
22 Install the front door sill molding (5) IMPORTANT Left. AR68.30-P-4100RT
23 Install the cover (3) under the dashboard IMPORTANT Left.
IMPORTANT After installing the cover ensure that the hood is closed correctly.
