MODIFICATION NOTES

28.11.05 Vehicle level - rear axle   *BE40.20-P-1001-03M
1 Drive vehicle onto measurement platform and apply parking brake IMPORTANT Observe general information on vehicle level check.   AR40.00-P-0202GZ
CLEAN Cleaning
2 Clean mounting points for measurement sensor (2) on left and right transverse control arms (1) of front axle
3 Clean left and right rear axle shafts (3)
HIGH PRESSURE TEST Measure
4 Measure the vehicle level at the front axle via the inclination of the transverse control arm. To do this, position the feet of the measurement sensor (086a) on the three mounting points for the measurement sensor (2) on the left and right transverse control arm (1) and save each measurement NOTES The connecting cable on the measurement sensor (086a) must point towards the center of the vehicle (arrow) otherwise the measurement will be incorrect.
IMPORTANT Measure the left side of the vehicle first, then the right.

5 Measure the vehicle level at the rear axle via the inclination of the rear axle shaft (3). To do this, position the measurement sensor (086a) on the left and right rear axle shaft (3) and save each measurement NOTES The connecting cable on the measurement sensor (086a) must point towards the center of the vehicle (arrow) otherwise the measurement will be incorrect.
IMPORTANT Measure the left side of the vehicle first, then the right.

INSPECT Checking
6 Compare measurements with specified values Vehicle level - front axle *BE40.20-P-1001-02M
Permissible difference in vehicle level between right and left side of vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-02M
Vehicle level - rear axle *BE40.20-P-1001-03M
Permissible difference in vehicle level between right and left side of vehicle *BE40.20-P-1002-03M
7.1 Transfer the measurements from the inclinometer (086) into the chassis alignment system IMPORTANT Only when performing chassis alignment.
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install
8.1 Adjust vehicle level IMPORTANT Only if the vehicle level is outside the tolerance at one or more measurement points.
Vehicles with steel suspension: ↓
Adjust vehicle level by installing or removing spacer washers on upper centering piece of spring, see: ↓

    Remove/install front spring AR32.20-P-0200GZ
    Remove/install rear spring
Vehicles with Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS), code 489: ↓
Adjust vehicle level by recalibrating the AIRmatic.
AR32.20-P-0230GZ
HIGH PRESSURE TEST Measure
9.1 Remeasure vehicle level and adjust if necessary IMPORTANT Only when vehicle level has been adjusted.
