Determine oil consumption - AR18.00-P-0025-05OM
Determine the oil mass before the measuring drive and note down the kilometer reading
- Place the vehicle on an even, horizontal surface.
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
Temperature of engine oil 80°C or 176°F
- Fill the engine oil level up to maximum.
- Drain the engine oil and collect it in a clean container.
- Weigh the vessel with the engine oil.
- Note down the mass (m 1 ) of the filled container, with the kilometer reading (s 1 1) on the "Engine analysis sheet" form.
- Pour the engine oil from the container into the engine.
Measuring drive
- Perform measuring drive.
1000 km trip by customer.
Determine the oil mass after measuring drive and note down the kilometer reading
- Place the vehicle on an even, horizontal surface.
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
Temperature of engine oil 80°C or 176°F
- Drain the engine oil and collect it in a clean container.
- Weigh the vessel with the engine oil.
- Note down the mass (m 2 ) of the filled container and the kilometer reading (s 2 ) on the "Engine analysis sheet" form.
Calculate oil consumption:
Oil density (= 0.85 kg/l)
Measurement distance (s) = kilometer reading (s2) - kilometer reading (s1)
Mass difference (mdiff ) = mass (m1) - mass (m2)
Oil consumption (Voil ) = Mass difference (m diff ) x 1000/Measurement distance (smess ) x oil density
Example of oil consumption calculation:
s mess = 235778 km - 234567 km = 1211 km
mdiff = 8.5 kg - 7.2 kg = 1.3 kg
Voil = 1.3kg x 1000/1211 km x 0.85 kg/l = 1.26 l/1000 km
Depending on driving style, the engine consumes up to 0.8 liters of oil per 1000 kilometers.
