The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is located behind the front right wheelhouse, between the fender and side wall.

Design
The housing of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit consists of aluminum and is designed as a shell concept unitary housing. The housing contains measuring and control electronics for the engine control.
Task
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit controls the engine control ME 9.7 AMG according to input signals.
The abbreviated designation "ME 9.7 AMG" means:
M = M otronic
E = E lectronic accelerator pedal
9.7 = Version 9.7
AMG = AMG specific hardware and software
Function
The following systems are controlled and coordinated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit:
- Ignition system
- Injection system
- Idle speed control
- Electronic accelerator
- Torque interface
- Alternator interface (LIN)
- Fuel evaporation control system
- Heat management
- Starter control
- Immobilizer and drive authorization system (FBS 3)
- Diagnosis and fault storage
- Emission control
Dependent on the equipment and model, vehicle control units are networked with the ME-SFI [ME] control unit via the CAN data bus (Controller Area Network). They can send data to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit depending on the function or receive data from the MESFI [ME] control unit.
Diagnosis
For diagnostic purposes individual function can be actuated in a targeted way using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
Correction programming of individual performance maps and variant coding is also possible using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
The engine control in ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flashable. The software required to program the control units is provided on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS Update DVD.
