Remove/install exhaust manifold - AR14.10-P-3915GZA (ML350, ML550, GL450, GL550)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Remove front engine compartment cover    
2 Remove right and left engine intake air duct    
3 Disconnect ground cable of battery When removing right exhaust manifold (1)
NOTES Insulate clamping device for ground line in order to prevent inadvertent contact with the ground point of the battery.

4 Unscrew the accessible nuts while the vehicle is lowered (8 and 9) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA14.10-P-1001-01E 
5 Remove left and right catalytic converter   AR49.10-P-7100GZA
6 Remove heat shield on starter When removing right exhaust manifold (1)  
7 Unscrew accessible nuts while vehicle is raised (8 and 9) and remove the exhaust manifold (1 and 2) from below IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace lock washer (10 or 11).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA14.10-P-1001-01E 
CLEAN Clean     
8 Clean sealing surfaces at cylinder head and exhaust manifold (1 and 2)    
9 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

10 Test run engine and check exhaust system for leaks
